The Paperwhite is an e-ink reader. It for the most part is best just for reading print content.

The Fire is a Tablet Lite. It does have a full color LCD touch screen, but a lighter capability processor, less connectivity (no Bluetooth for instance), and Amazon controlled app store, which carries mostly a selection of the Android store.

The iPad is a full tablet, with a full power processor, full Wifi, BT, and dock I/O, and cameras. It has the full Apple App/content store, and apps from other content sources.
