Will the new kindle fire hd let me connect to the internet anywhere?

It does NOT have an internet connection like a smartphone. That's called 3G or 4G, and the Fire does not have it. You must connect to a wi-fi hotspot. Lots of public places like Starbucks, McDonalds, public libraries, and other places have wi-fi available either for free or for paying customers.
There are 3G enabled tablets, but they are more expensive than the Fire and the data plan that you must have isn't cheap either.

Yes Daisy is right. But there are many addons for Kindle Fire HD for connecting Internet.

I own a Kindle Fire HD. Here are some good reviews and information about how to connect it to internet.

The Kindle Fire HD has WiFi (dual-band Wi-Fi), so you can connect to the internet when you're in WiFi hotspot or any area with WiFi coverage. You may find more user experience about surfing the internet on the Kindle Fire here:

If you want to have 4G internet access, then you get to go for the Kindle Fire 8.9" 4G LTE model. Right now 4G service on the Kindle Fire is only available in the US

Hope this helps.
