When you charge your Kindle Fire HD, turn it off. In Sleep Mode, it's still using power.

Also, for fastest charging, use the usb cable and a usb block power plug (the Amazon one is the best and fastest), instead of charging it from the usb port of a computer.

Are you using a laptop to charge? Is your laptop plugged to a wall socket as well?

It's true, however, that the Kindle charges quite slowly via laptop. It takes over 10 hours for a full charge. Consider to get the PowerFast charger, and it can be charged much faster.

Here you can find details on how to shorten charging time and optimize battery life of the Kindle Fire HD:

Hope that helps.

I have the (overpriced) powerfast charger it used to charge in a few hours. Left over night now it's still not fully charged in the morning. Could the charger be faulty?

My kindle has a charger plugged into a wall socket and takes 9 hours to charge even though I shut it down before charging.
