When your on your homepage on the kindle from the top scroll down and a page should come up with notifications along down the bottom and some other functions along the top, click on more and then click on language&keyboard and then device language and you can change it from there

Apparently, this can't be changed on the 1st generation Kindle Fire, but can be done on the 2nd gen and the HD.

For the 2nd gen, follow these instructions.

The menus and default dictionary on Kindle Fire 2nd Generation can be changed to support the following languages: English (United States), English (United Kingdom), French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Japanese.

To change the language on your Kindle Fire:

Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap More.
Tap Language & Keyboard.
Tap Language, tap your preferred language, and then tap Continue.
The menus and user interface language will change immediately to your new preferred language selection. You can also download a dictionary for your new language selection:

While reading, highlight a word in your preferred language.
In the lower-right corner of the dictionary dialog box, tap the language name.
Select your preferred language. A free dictionary for the language will download.
When the download is complete, you will see a definition of the word in your preferred language if the word appears in the dictionary. This will set the default dictionary to your preferred language.

If you have the Kindle Fire HD, then do this.
The menus and default dictionary on Kindle Fire HD can be changed to support the following languages: English (United States), English (United Kingdom), French, Spanish, German, Italian, or Japanese.

To change the language on your Kindle Fire:

Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap More.
Tap Language & Keyboard.
Tap Device Language, and then tap your preferred language.

My Kindle is in Japanese and I want it in English. It is a Kindle Fire HD with WiFi, 16 GB, Dual Core 1.5 GHZ, Dolby. I have tried numerous fixes and non have worked since most instructions assume you can read what is on the screen. Can you help with easy instructions?
