Does the Kindle Fire have a place for and SD card? Also Which generation is the best to get and why?

None of the Kindle Fires accept SD cards (on my wishlist), but instead allow you storage space on the Amazon Cloud.

As for which is the best, the 2nd gen has some software updates, but the Kindle Fire HD easily is the top model. The HD had a higher resolution screen than the Apple iPod Mini (great for Netflix), dual wifi antenna, dual Dolby speakers with external rocker volume controls, 16 or 32 gb memory choices instead of just 8 gb, and a front-facing camera that's perfect for Skype,

I have both models and now only use the 1st gen as an occasional backup.

1. No sd card slot on the device. But you can buy a wireless drive for it, such as Kingsoft.
2. Kindle Fire HD seems very good. I have a Kindle Fire, not very good… Of course, you can also consider Nexus 7. I have one and it is awesome. By installing Kindle app and Amazon app store app, people can acess Kindle books and Kindle apps.

No Kindle Fire HD comes without microSD slot. So you have 16/32/64Gb storage options. Plus you have Free Amazon cloud storage. You need just to be in WiFi to access it though.

Also Which generation is the best to get and why?
The latest Gen Kindle Fire would be preferable. To be specific Kindle Fire HD.

I suggest you read these comments on "16Gb or 32Gb", should be helpful in deciding the better option:
