Do I have to root my kindle fire hd to get google play?

I would like to get google play for my kindle fire hd but in too scared to root it and is rooting safe for my kindle fire hd

I believe so (as you'll need to install Google apps, which requires custom recovery!)

Yes apparently you do have to root it, Amazon has not really put up any obstacles to your doing this, but you would lose the Amazon specific facilities like their store access? And the browser cloud caching syetem that might sped up surfing a bit, you can undo rooting.
