Can I fix my kindle fire charging port at home?

My charging port is very loose and the charger wobbles around. My mom's Kindle Fire also has the same charging port problem. I've tried other chargers and it is definitely the port not the charger with the issue's. I've examined the port and it looks slightly bent at the top but I'm not sure if I should mess with it. Is this something that I can repair at home, I can't afford to take to repair shop.

Send it back to amazon. They will give you a new (perhaps refurbished) one as a replacement. This is a common problem. I am on my second one. I have read discussion boards where people have stated that they are on their 4th replacement.

If it is out of warranty they will NOT replace it but offer you to buy refurbish ones at a price that is close to the original cost but a little less but it's over $100 for a kindle Fire and I am up to my fourth one, one was a glitch with the item software. The other became a puzzle type look when I turned it one (very first I had and I DID NOT DROP IT) yet it wasn't color either. I purchase a charger and that charger was NOT good. Very sad that Amazon is not even able to have SERVICE centers approved by them for repairs. Shame on you. Right now one of the 7 kindles no longer (was in perfect condition other then the charging port) will not charge or turn on. How great that now our worse fears is the others will do the same eventually. They (Amazon) should authorized this help instead of trying to redeem the refurbished ones that people just can't pay anymore for. I was suggested to also "Don't take it to Best Buy" why is that? If they can fix it then they can what other options is Amazon giving those who really appreciated the 't read my books or use my resources it's a disappointment. For a "common problem" with the first addition Fire, it should not be so hard to just please those who Support you by purchasing your devices!

Typo error: on my 5th Kindle; those who appreciate their devices; I can't read any of my books and the kindle is blank thanks Amazon for your full support… Missing!

Yep. I have same issue right after the one yr period. What a joke. Will not be buying anymore Kindles. Maybe it is time for an ipad. Not going to waste any more money on Amazon or kindle.

This is my first kindle and it is not charging, I thought it was the charger so I change it got a new charger and it still will not charge. I believe it is the port of the kindle, I don't know it I have warranty still on the kindle because I brought it from a friend. I have to ask my friend and maybe I will send it back.

I have had two kindle fire tablets and there is definitely a problem with the charging ports. My first kindle is perfectly fine, but it can not be charged because the charging port is loose. My warranty is out and amazon will not fix it even if I pay for it. I made a big mistake and bought a new one and I am already having problems. Save your money buy the mini iPad. It is cheaper in the long term and it is a better tablet.

This is sad, my Kindle Fire is 2 years old and the charging port no longer works. From reading these related comments here the issue of the charging port failure appears to be a design flaw. I was thinking of having it repaired however after reading these I think I will save my hard earned money.

Very sad day indeed! My kindle fire port to charge stopped charging:( I have to wiggle it around to get it to charge! Called Customer Service they only offered to buy a new one with a $100 credit for turning in the old one or to buy a refurbished one at a discounted price. A little scared of buying a refurbished one. Mine is in good condition except now the charging port. If I can get it to charge. If I buy a new one the size is now a different size 8.9" instead of the 7" that they used to be - but It is newer technology and a new kindle - I will have to buy a new cover as the old one won't fit the new kindles. I really wish that Amazon had an authorized repair shop to take it to. I can understand them not having a repair place - but certainly if they can offer REFURBISHED ones they are getting them fixed somewhere! Why can't I send mine in to get repaired and have them send it back?

It's only a problem with the very first kindle fires. I am on my 3rd one. This time they are sending a new HD Kindle Fire with camera as replacement for a discount. Waiting on it to come in the mail. If this one does this I am done with Kindles.

Didnt think about a new case because of different size now. Yes I agree, they need to get a repair center established or partner with best buy/geeks/radio shack somebody so this isnt such an annoyance… Am looking forward to the camera and HD though…

My two cents, and my LAST Kindle product. These folks are not even reasonable. Sad to say three of these were gifts. Totally embarrassed by the whole mess. I would have paid shipping, a small repair fee, hell, even driven it to them. No more. And NO Amazon gift cards to my employees for Christmas. Barnes and Noble will be just fine with them. Or maybe Starbucks!

RockIT Repairs fixes the charging ports on kindle fires. They fixed mine and had it done the same day they received in the mail. Awesome service!

I am also having a problem with the port for charging. This is my 2nd one. I had the first one replaced within 6 months of puchase for the same issue. The second one is now experiencing the same issue and it is just over a year. I didn't know we were purchasing disposable tablets that only worked for a year if you were lucky.

This problem with the charging port seems to a common defect in these machines because i am experiencing the same problem. It is just not charging eventhough I bought a new charger. I even went as far as buying a new battery for almost $50. That was a waste of precious money I can little afford. It is a SHAME that Amazon is not doing anything to fix this problemm. Right now I am discouraging everyone I know from purchasing a kindle.

I think just from these comments I know the problem is the port it won't turn on the light is green as if it's charged but it still won't turn on.

Does anyone know if this continues to be a problem with the 8.9" screen version? I'm on 2nd one also and the port just pooped out on me. I bought an ipad but honestly like the Kindle better but afraid to get the new Kindle in case it has the same problem.

Same problem for me also. My second KF stopped charging and Amazon's only recommendation is to buy another one. Not gonna happen.

My Kindle is having the same problem. Paid for extra chargers, spending money that I need for other things. The problem with the replacement is, that a friend sent her a refurbished one, ending up not working, having same problem, tried to send it back and told warranty ran out and no replacement or refund.

Same port problem on 2nd kindle. The first was replaced for the same reason. Amazon basically said "too bad."

I have been told the same thing too bad just offering a new one with a charge of from $65-$145 plus giving them your old one… This has been a problem so I think they should fix this an just let us pay the shipping at most.

Well, this is depressing. Clicked on looking for help and after reading the posts, I can see I might as well whistle in the wind. I have so many books yet to read and love the convenience of the kindle but with the trouble with charging ports, I guess another one is out of the question. Wish my grandson had not gotten one for Christmas now.

I too purchased a Kindle Fire HD. It isn't charging. I don't know if it's the port or the charger. I have had my KFhd for only about 4 months. I too purchased books (quite a few) I haven't even opened. After reading these posts. I seriously think I made a huge mistake choosing Kindle. Next time, I'm going to do my research before making a purchase. Letting my friends and family know not to purchase one in the future. Bummed. I really thought my KFhd and I were going to have a long relationship. Hardly seems like it is worth repairing. If the same problem will come up again. :(

Having the same issue and actually found a company that repairs them. At least I hope its SRR Manufacturing in Illinois. Only problem is even though they advertise 1 day service its now been 15 days for mine. Customer service is terrible, they will not answer the phone and rarely respond to emails. The owner lied to me about when he supposedly shipped my kindle, which should have arrived by now and when he finally sent me a tracking number it still is giving any information to track. I sure hope that if it ever shows up it works! Would have been easier to get a new one. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I am glad to know I am not the only one that had this issue. I have had 2 Kindle Fires and for now 1 is still working but I still have to wiggle the charger. The other will not charge at all. I love the Kindle Fires but am thinking about going to an IPAD mini now… Never had a problem with an Apple product charger port

I am having the same issue and am so angry at their unconcern. They don't care that their product is garbage.
