I know that kindles do not support epub's but I was thinking there might be a way to somehow convert the epub to imobi, and then download that file. However, I am seeking a portable solution. (ie. No computer needed)

I have found some useful information. There are many websites which offer online converting and downloading of ebooks, and allow you to enter the download link of the epub, however, there is no LINK copy and pasting on the kindle keyboard so this is probably of no help.

You can give this a shot:

Personally I just use Calibre

If you want to download epub books and read them on kindle.
there is one way to achieve this.
you need a tool, like Epubsoft Ebook Converter to help you convert the format to azw which is compatible with kindle easily, then you can read them on kindle finally.

Yes, you can convert ePub files to Kindle readable format, if it's not DRM protected. You can use some software like Calibre for such conversion:

http://calibre-ebook.com/
http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq.html#what-formats-does-app-support-conversion-to-from

Here are the list of file formats that are supported by the Kindle, you should convert the ePub files to one of those file formats:

Hope that helps.
