I have recently purchased a kindle cover case and it is meant to auto wake and sleep when opened and closed, so does anyone know how to set this up?

The Kindle Fire has a magnetic switch - some cases have a magnet. If you've got a different Kindle or the wrong case it won't happen. It's also possible to put the Kindle in the case the wrong way round.

Mine worked great just by putting it in the case and opening/closing the cover. Then, about two months later, it quit working. Called customer service and was connected to a Kindle"expert". He was going to send a new unit which I had to pay for then hope for credit when I returned mine. Nope. Investigated further and noticed that the magnet in the leather cover had slipped out of its recessed position. It's at the first fold about 2" in from the right edge. About half the size of a dime. Worked it back into position and it works like it's supposed to. This may not be your problem but, it worked for me.
To preserve your battery go to Settings- Display & Sounds- Display Sleep- and choose from 30 seconds to NEVER.
