Can I send an Amazon Kindle in the mail with USPS media mail?
I need to ship one out and I was wondering if it was allowed since it was a media based device (an ebook) or if they won't allow it because it's an electronic device? I am not going to the post office, I plan on shipping it out via USPS from my home mail box.
If anyone knows for sure, please let me know. Thanks!
No, you would not be able to ship that media mail. Media mail is only for books and magazines. Since that is an electronic device I would recommend sending it priority mail or even express mail with insurance. However, if you want the cheapest it would be parcel post. I would recommend putting delivery confirmation on it.
No, a Kindle does not meet any of the definitions of Media Mail. As mentioned, Media Mail can be used for actual books or Magazines that do not contain advertising or can be mailed as a Periodical. Which is most all magazines.
The DMM defines just what can be sent as Media Mail.
If you ship it media mail and it's inspected, the buyer will have to pay for extra postage because a Kindle does not qualify for media mail. Media Mail is ground shipping that travels on a space available basis, so your shipment could take weeks to be delivered and has a greater chance of being damaged.
I would wrap the kindle in a padded priority mail flat rate envelope and then put it in the card board priority mail flat rate envelope and pay for priority mail shipping.
bulkmailtech has nothing but contempt for the public and will not provide helpful information. Steer clear of the lummox.
